First Advance on Sustainable Exchange Transactions (AOC) from the private market with the company Caramuru – Banco BV

WHAT IS IT

Banks play a significant role in the climate change landscape and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), due to their position in mobilizing capital through investments, loans, and advisory functions. With this in mind, we aim to provide innovative solutions to clients to help them transition to a low-carbon economy and promote sustainable financing.

RESULTS AND OBJECTIVES

The goal is to provide innovative solutions to clients to help them transition to a low-carbon economy and promote sustainable financing.

Today, Caramuru is one of the leading Brazilian groups in the processing of soybeans, corn, sunflower, and canola. It also holds a prominent position in the renewable fuels segment as the sixth largest biodiesel producer in Brazil, with commitments including zero deforestation, 100% monitoring and tracking of all acquired raw materials, and promoting sustainability at all stages of its production chain. Furthermore, it has several social inclusion programs for small producers.

Operations labeled as ESG generate benefits for society, the planet, and the customer in general. Companies that promote and act correctly and in line with legally required ESG practices gain credibility and a good reputation, improve their internal processes while developing more sustainable practices.

The Sustainable Advance on Foreign Exchange Operations (AOC) between Banco BV and Caramuru is an example of how sustainable investments yield significant results. The purchase of soybeans from family farmers not only strengthens the local economy but also contributes to the social development of these communities, generating jobs and income. Furthermore, by encouraging soybean production by family farmers, Caramuru is fostering sustainable agricultural practices and supporting the transition to a greener and more responsible production chain. This helps mitigate climate change and finances initiatives that promote reforestation, protect biodiversity, oceans, and the conservation of natural resources, while also promoting reverse logistics for waste, preventing material waste, and contributing to a circular economy.

With this in mind, there is a focus on improving production methods, direct support for cooperatives and native and surrounding communities, more efficient water management, increased productivity, incentives for reducing GHGs (Greenhouse Gases), and, of course, the development of partnerships that strengthen the capacity to help improve quality of life, health, and reduce impacts on the environment, preserving soil and water quality.

The first sustainable AOC on the market with an international Green Finance certification.
Caramuru's operation with Banco BV follows ICMA principles and has been validated by attestESG, positioning the company as a pioneer in ESG and expanding its appeal to sustainable investors.
