WHAT IS IT
Dow developed the pioneering production, in Brazil, of a family of resins made from Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic (PCR) – REVOLOOP™. Produced by mechanical recycling, the REVOLOOP™ line of PCR resins is specifically designed for flexible and rigid plastic packaging applications, ranging from rigid bottles and shrink-wrap to e-commerce bags and protective packaging.
REVOLOOP™ recycled plastic resins allow up to 70% of recycled plastic to be incorporated into new products. Dow is contributing to reduce plastic waste and make recycling possible. Through this technology, Dow helps its customers achieve their sustainability goals and encourages the creation of packaging that can be mechanically recycled and converted to PCR in the future.
RESULTS AND OBJECTIVES
In response to growing consumer demand and government directives, major property owners brands working with Dow have set goals to include at least 30% of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in their products or packaging by 2030. The REVOLOOP™ resin market is expected to reach more than 20 thousand tons of circular products being sold in Brazil, moving the entire recycling chain and adding value to the material.
Through collaborative projects, Dow seeks to strengthen the recycling industry's demand for post-consumer packaging by supporting the expansion of existing solutions that incorporate this material. The post-consumer plastic used to manufacture REVOLOOP™ PCR resins is collected by cooperatives that are part of the program. “Recycling that Transforms”. The project began in 2019, with the aim of increase the productivity and impact of cooperatives through improvements in infrastructure, processes, and offering training in waste management. By 2024, the program “Recycling that Transforms” received a contribution of approximately US$1,400,000 from the Dow Foundation and, in collaboration with Gaia Social, began supporting two Ambipar projects that are already underway in Brazil.
